The Institute of Political Science and Public Administration is a unit of the University of Zielona Góra that conducts scientific and didactic activities in political science and public administration.
The Institute was established by a resolution of the Senate of the Tadeusz Kotarbiński Higher School of Pedagogy in Zielona Góra on April 16, 1997. Until 2019, it functioned within the structure of the Faculty of Humanities as the Institute of Politology. Then, as a result of changes related to the new classification of scientific fields and disciplines already under the changed name, the Institute of Political Science and Public Administration became part of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
Within the Institute is the editorial board of the international scientific journal “Przegląd Narodowościowy - Review of Nationalities,” founded in 2011. In 2018, the Institute of Politology was granted the right to confer doctoral degrees in political science and public administration.
By the decision of the Minister of Education and Science No. 104/505/2022 of July 29, 2022, the University of Zielona Góra was granted scientific category A in the discipline of political science and public administration, thereby gaining the right to conduct doctoral studies and confer doctoral and postdoctoral degrees in this field.
The University of Zielona Góra was ranked 7th in the “Perspektywy 2023 Ranking of Higher Education Institutions” in the Political Science category, the highest score in our Institute’s history.
The Institute currently has three Departments: International Relations, Recent History and Political Thought, and Political Systems, Political Theory, and Administration. Research activities are also conducted within the Laboratory for Research on National and Ethnic Minorities and the Laboratory for German Studies.
